Brazil, officially the Federative Republic of Brazil (in Portuguese: Federative Republic of Brazil), is a sovereign country of South America that includes the eastern half of the subcontinent and some groups of small islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
With an area estimated at more than 8.5 million km², 3 is the fifth largest country in the world in total area (equivalent to 47% of the South American territory).
The Brazilian territory is crossed by two imaginary geographical lines: the equator, which passes through the mouth of the Amazon, and the Tropic of Capricorn, which crosses the city of São Paulo.197 The country occupies a vast area along the east coast of South America and covers much of the interior of the continent.
The climate of Brazil has a wide variety of climatic conditions in a large region with a varied topography, although it can be considered that most of the country has a tropical climate.
Brazilian cuisine varies greatly depending on each region, so it reflects the mix of native populations and immigrants. This has defined a national gastronomy marked by the preservation of these regional differences, among the best examples are the feijoada, considered the national dish, vatapá, moqueca, polenta and acarajé. Brazil has a great variety of sweets such as brigadeiro and beijinho.
Having in its metropolitan area a population of 21 893 053 inhabitants, according to the census data 2010.6 being the first metropolis of America, 7 and one of the most populated in the world, the third largest metropolitan area of the American continent8 . It is also the most populous and important Portuguese-speaking city in the world in terms of both demographic and cultural and economic terms.

It is one of the main economic centers, cultural and financial resources of the country, and is known internationally for its cultural icons and landscapes, such as the Sugar Loaf, the statue of Christ the Redeemer (one of the seven wonders of the modern world), the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, the Maracanã Stadium.
Surrounded by the Sierra del Curral, which acts as a natural and historical frame of reference, it was planned and built to be the political and administrative capital of the State, under the influence of the ideas of positivism, at the height of the republican ideology in the country.
